Wolf Cub™ slot

Welcome to Disneyland! Or better said, may I present you Wolf Cub™, the latest Net Entertainment slot, exclusively released on 16th February 2017 at the Betsson Group casinos Betsafe, NordicBet, Mr. Smith and Betsson. It comes complete with cute cartoon figures, a snowy dream forest and a howling wolf cub, all accompanied by a toddler’s tune playing in the background. Netent has introduced a new game mechanism which they call Blizzard Trail that transforms symbols into the triggering symbol in Free Spins providing good win potential, the jackpot pay being 40,000 coins or 2,000x bet.

You would think the kids to jump at this slot as it has all the making of a childish video game but it remains to be seen if the adult gambler world will accept it into their favorites play lists. We will know more after taking a closer look at this latest Netent creation.

Slot details

The game is set in a winterly forest with snow flakes falling down covering the paw prints of the wolf cub and his cartoon like gang who seem to be on a nightly adventure to find treasures and bonuses, setting off a Blizzard in the Free Spins round.

Wolf Cub™ is a 5-reel, 3-row, 20-pay line (fixed) slot with stacked symbols and only one type of Free Spins bonus round that includes a new game mechanism called Blizzard feature. Bet sizes range from $0.20 – $200 adjusted with the aid of $0.01 – $1.00 denominations and 1 – 10 bet levels.

TRTP is a comfortable 96.34% which together with the medium line pays makes it a medium variance slot trending towards the low end. Top pay is 2,000 coins or 100x stake for 5OAK Wilds which could result in up to 20x 2,000 for a full screen of stacked Wilds. The slot is in HTML5 format and will be available for play on desktop, mobile and tablet across all OS platforms.

Low paying symbols are card symbols hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds, all having the same payouts. The high paying symbols are represented by the Wolf Cub’s gang members owl, lynx, moose, bear and the wolf cub itself in ascending order. Top paying symbol is Wild in form of a wolf paw and Scatters are a full moon with the word scatter across with minimum three needed to trigger the Free Spins.

Free Spins Bonus Round

Having minimum three Scatter land anywhere on the reels will trigger the Free Spins. No coin win for any amount of scatters but an interesting new way of determining how many Free Spins will be given for the round with the maximum at a staggering 115 spins.

Once 3 – 5 scatters hit the screen the reels on which the scatters landed will turn again and once they stop each position will reveal a number of Free Spins that are then accumulated to display the total of Free Spins for the upcoming bonus round. Numbers are random but 115 Free Spins is the maximum a player can be awarded.

The Free Spins have no multiplier, nor can they be re-triggered and are played at the same bet level and coin value as the round that activated them.

Blizzard Feature

To spice up the bonus round Netent has given this slot a special game mechanism called Blizzard feature that could potentially deliver mega and super mega wins. Once a stack of symbols covers on reel one all matching symbols on the other reels will spread towards reel 1, thus filling up all spaces in the row between them and the matching symbols on reel 1 allowing for multiple line wins.

The most desirable of course is to hit a stack of Wilds on reel 1 and 5 as then it would cover the whole screen with Wilds paying 20x 5OAK and at 2,000 coins that converts to 2,000 x stake.

In the image below the owls landed stacked on reel 1 and one on reel 4. The Blizzard feature spreads then the owls to the front substituting all symbols with owls and paying in the end 3x 4OAK owls.

Final Words

Have they gone “gaga” at Netent? That was my first thought when loading up the game to see this childish although cute theme with a tune sounding in the background that is regularly played to toddlers before they go to sleep. Did not impress me at all, to be honest. Slots are for adults and we should keep it that way.

At the end of the day the main point is whether the slot is delivering good entertainment value and has potential for some decent wins. Hmmm, not sure on this one either as the top pay, apart from 5OAK Wilds, is just 30x bet, you will need them stacked multiples times to get to a mega win and on top Netent gave it just one bonus round which is pretty measly compared to some of the latest creations like Warlords: Crystals of Power™ or Jungle Spirit: Call of the Wild™.

Will it become a new favorite. Well, not mine but I can see the cute design and characters appealing to a range of players and it has indeed some win potential when hitting multiple stacked symbols on the reels.

Happy howling!
